The North County Food Bank was on the receiving end of a generous donation from Dailey Foods, a family-owned and operated plant-based food company, which calls San Luis Obispo, California home.

Dailey Foods stopped by the North County Food Bank’s newly leased warehouse in Vista to deliver 5,500 Heavenly Chia meals, which will be distributed to local families in need.

 What are Heavenly Chia meals?

The Heavenly Chia meals are made with organic chia seeds, coconut milk powder and natural flavorings, and can be enjoyed simply by adding water.

This donation marks the beginning of their goal to facilitate the donation of 1 million meals to Americans in need. Launched in 2019, the program facilitates the purchase of donation Heavenly Chia meals to be donated to food banks, shelters, and disaster zones.

“We are proud to be facilitating free, plant-based meals for those in need, as well as supporting organic farmers and sustainable, fair-trade growers in the process,” says founder, Chef Veronica Dailey.

“We are passionate about connecting people in need with meals they will feel nourished by.”

Who will benefit from the donation?

The plant-based meals will be distributed through our network of nonprofit partners to individuals and families struggling to make ends meet.

“This donation from Heavenly Chia will benefit hundreds of North County families facing food insecurity,” remarks James Floros, President & CEO of the San Diego Food Bank and the North County Food Bank chapter.

“The fact that these chia seed-based meals are chock-full of nutrients, such as omega 3s, iron, calcium and fiber helps us to drive home the point that we are not just simply a ‘food bank’, but a ‘nutrition bank’. And we appreciate support from companies who understand and support our efforts to provide nutrient-rich foods to those in need.”
