During the month of October, businesses and organizations across North County San Diego come together to help Scare Away Hunger by collecting jars of peanut butter for local children and families in need.

Why Peanut Butter?

Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein for children and families. It’s popular with kids, shelf-stable, and one jar can provide more than 12 sandwiches.

Peanut butter is very expensive for the Food Bank to purchase. That’s why this year’s peanut butter food drive will be instrumental in helping stock the Food Bank’s shelves with this nutrient-rich superfood for local families in need.

Who Benefits from the Donations?

Did you know? 1 in 4 children faces food insecurity in San Diego County, including those living in North County communities. All donations will be distributed to families in need through the Food Bank’s direct food distributions and our nonprofit partners’ hunger relief programs.

Participate in this Year’s Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive!

There are many different ways to support this year’s Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive.

1. Donate Peanut Butter Virtually

You can help supply peanut butter to local children and families in need by donating securely through our online donation form. A $25 donation will help supply 5 jars of peanut butter, a $50 donation will help supply 10 jars of peanut butter and a $150 donation will help supply 30 jars of peanut butter!

2. Drop Off Physical Donations of Peanut Butter

If you would prefer to make a physical donation of unopened jars of peanut butter or your favorite nut butter such as almond, sunflower, or cashew butter, please stop by any of the participating businesses or organizations listed below accepting physical donations. You can also drop off the donations at the North County Food Bank’s warehouse in Vista.

3. Collect Peanut Butter Through Your Company or Organization On Behalf Of the Food Bank

Your business or organization can become a drop-off location for supporters to donate unopened jars of peanut butter. Companies and organizations that sign up to become drop-off locations will have their address and drop-off hours listed on this webpage and will receive a barrel to collect peanut butter donations. 

Your organization can also choose to host a Virtual Food Drive where supporters can donate securely online through our platform.
